1940 Plymouth Sedan 2 Door Details
This car is a great candidate for someone looking to build a hot rod or something to restore. The car is complete, minus a couple random trim pieces. It is a pretty solid car, not too much rust. The major rust spots are the driver’s side running board and the spare tire well in the trunk. It has a straight body and is all metal, no body filler. The original paint has worn off and the car has been coated with a rust inhibitor. What you see in the pictures is the bare metal of the car. It has an inline 6-cyl with a 3-speed column shift. The motor is locked up because it has been sitting for the last ten years. The linkage on the shifter is messed up as well. The clutch engages and disengages properly. The electrical system works. The interior is all there, but shows signs of being 70 years old. The seat frames are still in ok shape, they will need new upholstery because of a few tears and stains. The door panels are out of the car, but all are present and can be used as a template to make some new ones. The wood grain dash is in ok condition, but most knobs are messed up. All glass is present and in good condition. The floors aren’t rusted out, just a couple of pinholes around the edges. The original rubber floor covers are present. The driver’s door opens and closes properly. The passenger door can only be opened from the inside. The hood opens and closes, but does not latch shut. The trunk opens and closes properly. The original spare tire and jack set are in the trunk. Front tires were just replaced with a set of original tires that came with the car. They hold air fine and roll well, but probably not truly roadworthy.
Overall, it is a decent car for the money. It would make a great starting platform for a restoration or a hot rod.
