1940 Sprint Car Vintage Details

We have 2 HAL dual overhead cam motors that need a rebuild that is for sale also, separate from the car.

1940’s Sprint Car. FIA certification. Ran at Lime rock until 2004. Race Ready. No engine.

Here is the info I have on the car.

The car was built before the War by the “Ashley Bros.” in Saginaw Michigan. It was driven in the IMCA circuit by a driver that went by the name “Mr. Music”. It was later run in Oklahoma by someone named “Burtner” The history from then until the 50’s is unsure, but it was found and bought by “Jim Etter” of Pennsylvania in the 50’s. Jim is a well known Sprint car driver. Then in the 70’s it was sold to “Spencer Riggs”. Spencer Riggs is an author of a few Sprint cars and Indy racing history books. The car was originally black as you can see in the photos from the 70’s. It was bought by “Lee Duran” of Connecticut and restored in 1988 and painted red and yellow. Lee changed the front and rear radius rods to split wishbones, but I have the original hairpins. Lee raced the car in vintage races up until I bought it in 2004. I re-painted it black and pulled the motor, but have not touched it since. I was told the all-aluminum body was a Hildegass. The car is FIA certified.
